While my path to becoming a Physician Assistant has not been typical, I believe my employment and academic history have given me indispensable exposures and experiences that have prepared me well for this career. I hope that you will allow me to elaborate on all that I have done, and how very important it is to me to be allowed to advance towards a graduate program in Physician Assistant studies. From my earliest years I wanted nothing as much as I wanted to dedicate my life to a healthcare field, and to excel in that field in order to ease the pain and suffering of others. I have always had a genuine desire to learn, advance my skills, responsibly serve, and provide a high standard of compassionate care with integrity and empathy. To this
My transition into the field of Health Information Management was not intended, but rather a result of life throwing a curveball. Since graduating from Pace University in 2015 with a Bachelor's in Finance, my passion has been to merge business finance and healthcare into one career goal. This is healthcare revenue cycle management. The education that I received provided me with a foundation and framework upon which I am now building on a daily basis. My life experiences led me to work as a financial analyst, where I handled complex spreadsheets and performed analytics.
I further explored my interest in dentistry through the Dental Career Exploration Pipeline Program. Through this program I learned the impact of one’s oral health on one’s overall health. I learned the types of procedures dentists perform other than the typical filling and extraction. The most memorable and influential part was placing filling and caps, repairing chipped teeth, and many other procedures I was able to perform myself on the mannequin. I left with confidence that dentistry was the career for me.
I learned how to respond to medical emergency while working on the First-Aid merit badge in Boy Scouts. This sparked my interest in learning about medicine. However, the most influential moment of my life was my grandfather’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Over the years the disease has progressed rapidly, in spite of his treatment with the latest medications. Sometimes the emotional and naïve side of me gets mad that even after decades of research in this field, scientists still don’t fully understand the disease’s mechanism to halt the degeneration.
Alumni of Hampton University and graduates of this Masters in Medical Science program guided me to the program. After gaining their insight and experiences I was confident that I wanted to be a part of what this program offers. First, I look forward to gaining different worldview perspectives from other aspiring healthcare professionals. Each student will carry his or her own life experience and culture that alters their opinions on the state of healthcare. My hope is that their perspectives will influence me to think deeper about healthcare.
Back in high school, I never heard of interning at a dental clinic, never thought to volunteer at the local library because all I had thought was that I would get into college, graduate, and here comes dental school. Indeed what a fooling thought. I need shpep because I do not yet have the complete first-hand experience at clinics and hospitals. Although shadowing at a dental office gave me very knowledgeable insight into the field, i still have questions, curiosities that I would like to meet before I start the dental school application process. As a first generation, i am always having to need to impress people, prove to them that I have the right to study and learn and gain knowledge because that is how i will secure a bright and healthy future for not only myself, but also my family and the future generations.
I believe my practical experience and what I’ve learned during my six years as a dental assistant at Plainview Oral sets me apart from other students. Not only for the dental skills that I have acquired, but also for the kindness and care that I have demonstrated, when working with patients in real life situations. Many patients have thanked me for my professional bedside manner both before, during, and after surgery. I also assisted patients with disabilities, and was able to exhibit a patient and positive attitude when working with them. Hands-on skills such as taking impressions, radiographs, and making night guards will help me thrive in dental school.
Donald John Trump officially became the 45th President of the United States of America when he took the oath of office on the 20th of January 2017, ushering in a new administration that vowed to stop what he termed as the ‘American Carnage’ from the previous administration including that of his immediate predecessor, President Obama. In a ceremony that was held in the US Capitol Building in Washington, D.C, President Trump gave out a speech that was generally focused on restoring lost greatness as he claimed that the previous administrations had not conducted the US as a superpower. In his speech, Trump claimed that the US deserved to be respected, and this is what he vowed to restore. He outlined his vision of restoring the country that he claimed was afflicted by ‘damages’ such as foreign exploitation, insecurity, unemployment and economic dislocation and referred himself as the best president to help out the country out of this.
Health and social care is something that I have always been passionate about. Because I have studied health and social care for the last four years I have regularly met a lot of the most vulnerable members of society through past work experiences. Through past placements I have worked with children who have special needs. This helped me develop ways of communicating with the children this could be through sign language. Because my Aunt is deaf I have taught myself basic sign language in order to communicate with her effectively.
They perform teaching and learning without any prior training to patients, junior students, colleagues, and residence in lectures or in the clinic. A 2009 senior survey conducted by the American Dental Education Association found that 44.3% of graduates plan to teach at some point in their career, which did not receive any formal teaching training during their study which is a component that the dental field is in high need of (Hum et al., 2014). Therefore, the emphasis on providing training in teaching and learning for future graduates is essential. The students will learn to communicate, express their opinions, thoughts, and interact to each other.
