Last week I found the information that I gathered from the assignment on conducting a visit to a local healthcare facility to hold the most interesting concepts from me. As you all are aware of as a student it is very crucial to follow hospital policies if you do not want to get removed from your program but also because it is the right thing to do, to provide safe client care. A patient and nurse interact and communicate and form an interpersonal system that is affected by situational factors in the environment (Alligood, 2013). Alligood (2013) also identifies the fundamental concepts of this theory as: perception, communication, interaction, transaction, self, role, growth and development, stress/stressors, coping, time, and personal space. These come from the personal and interpersonal system concepts. While the personal and social systems effect patient outcomes, the system that seems to have the biggest influence on this is the interpersonal system.
Working in a hospital setting with a team that has members from many disciplines can sometimes lead to issues that are easily solved if only they are acknowledged. Some of the major issues within IP care are philosophical differences, disparity in power amongst the health care professionals (HCP), communication between the members, and inexperience in team working.
