Back In 1920, there is a kind of believe that revolves around the American society during that period - people see alcohol as a bad thing, meanwhile they also think that the consumption of alcohol is bad, as it will lead to other troubles such as the rise of criminal activities. People also believed that by drinking alcohol, it will endanger American’s health, and lower an individual’s productivity. Article Five of the United States Constitution clearly spells out ways to amend the document as so desired by Congress or the States. Regarding this specific topic, there have been recent debates over whether there should be a Constitutional Convention comprised of state legislatures developed for the sole purpose of bypassing congress in amending the Constitution. Before I watched the debate, I decided against this notion as I personally do not have any knowledge, presently, of how to amend the constitution. Therefore, there should not be a convention to do just that. Although the opposing side brought some real issues to light regarding the ideas of “Draining the Swamp”, using “True Democracy” for one person equals one vote/one state equals one vote, and stating that re-electing new congressional officials hasn’t changed anything either.
The amendment was intended to create an abstinence from alcoholic beverages. In this time period most people drank alcoholic beverages there wasn’t many people back then that did not drink. “ The 18th amendment was ratified in 1919, congress passed the Volstead Act to enforce national prohibition” (the 18th amendment ushers in the prohibition Era: January 16, 1919). In 1787, the Constitution of the United States was being written by delegates from 12 states; however, it took several months for the Constitution to be approved in order to replace the Articles of Confederation (Bill of Rights Institute., 2017). After much consideration, the constitution was set up to include three separate powers of government so that they could not have total control. These forms of government included the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The executive branch was created to enforce the laws, the legislative branch created the laws and was the most powerful, and the judiciary determines if the laws were unconstitutional while upholding them.

Gene editing is a technique that enables scientists to replace the section of the original genome of a living organism. It offers a greater precision on changing the sequences of DNA specifically. Some scientists have been looking forward to use human embryos for the experiment in order to understand the early stages of life and the potential to remove the hereditary illness. However, the ethical issues and potential risks associated with gene editing have called for a moratorium until further research is completed. The ethical implication and adequate regulation of gene editing will need further consideration in order to make this technique achievable.
