American history is full of challenges and other hardships that we have had to overcome. Lots of threats have tried to ruin our country and our freedom. On September 11, 2001, terrorists decided to fly planes into the Twin Towers. That is not the only time in the recent past that our freedom has been threatened. All the threats have only improved our hope for the future. The past has a lot to do with America’s future. The past is full of lessons that we learn and can use in our future. The problems that we faced have brought us closer together. We hope for a future that is better than the past, and a future where we can all get along. George Santyana said that “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” This means that if we don’t learn from our mistakes, we will run into the same problems. Doing the same thing over and over helps no one accomplish anything. History is very important to our future. History helps us make morals. They wanted to scare America and its citizens so much that we wouldn’t leave our homes for fear of more attacks. That was the intention, but it did almost the exact opposite. A month after 9/11, US troops were sent to Afghanistan to destroy al-Qaeda and begin the longest war the US has been in, the war against Terrorist. Before 9/11, airports were a lot less strict. People could take darts, and blades up to four inches long onto planes. After 9/11, we learned from past mistakes and fixed them. Now we have better technology to screen people and see if they are carrying bombs or other harmful things on planes. This is all to make the lives of the passengers and pilots better for the future. We changed our security everywhere after that to make our future
