Over 61,000 dogs suffer in U.S laboratories every year. More than 21,000 cats are forced to endure painful experiments in U.S laboratories anually. Animals have been used repeatedly for scientific research throughout history. However, not all animal studies have been successful when humans were involved. Animal testing torments many innocent creatures for unreliable and costly research that is not necessary.
"The term 'animal testing' refers to procedures performed on living animals for purposes of research into basic biology and disease. Asserting the effectiveness of new medicinal products, and testing the human health and/or environmental safety of consumer and industry products such as cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, pharmaceuticals and industrial/Argo-chemicals (“About Animal Testing”)”. 3. Till this day, animal testing is considered justified because scientists believe any type of animal is obligated to sacrifice itself in order to make new products safer for human use and consumption (“Save the Animals”).
Animal Testing: Bloody Secret behind beauty It is true that cosmetics are routinely tested on animals before they are cleared for human use. Most of people don’t know the reality of animal testing, they just want to know the effectiveness of the products. Animal testing in cosmetics and other products affects our society, we must understand and try to solve this problem. Animal testing is widely used to develop new cosmetics and test the safety of the products. However, these tests or experiments can cause animals pain and suffering.
Animal tests produce results which are not applicable to humans. Important cellular, genetic and structural differences between humans and other type of animals have prevented animal models from serving as effective models in order to find a treatment. Animals are not little human. Although humans share most of their genes with other mammals, there are still differences in how human’s body function. Small differences in an individual’s biochemistry can account for the drastic variation in reactions among members of the same species and between members of different species.
Animal testing goes as far back to greek philosophers such as Aristotle (384 – 322 BC) and Erasistratus (304 – 258 BC). Whom once performed testing on animals to advance behavior of something or who aspired to alter brain activity. However there was scientists such as Galen (129 – 199 / 217 AD), who used animals in order to attempt to improve various human activity within the body. Specifically focusing on cures and treatment for those who don't have them. Later, Ibn Zuhr began to use animal testing to benefit humans in which he would perform surgeries on them to ensure that the procedures would not harm humans.
In the end, the advantages and pros of animal testing outweight the cons. Animals need to be used for testing because it advances medical practices, safely tests on animals, and saves both animal and human lives alike. The first reason animal testing
Reference (Understandinganimalresearch.org.uk, 2014) • 71 of the noble prizes won in the last 100 years have been awarded to scientists who have used animals in their research for medicine. Reference (Pro-test.org.uk, 2014) There’s no denying that there are pros and cons to using animals for testing which you can see above, and that’s only scratching the surface. Below is a case study which shows what happens when products are not tested before being put out on the market. If these products where tested on animals beforehand would we have saved all these lives?
Animal experimentation has been a very controversial debate for many years. About 100 million animals are killed in laboratories for drug and cosmetic testing. They are used for medical testing and for dissecting in biology lessons. I think animal testing is something that isn’t necessary at all. Animals are not treated well and are often abused by their handlers.
Imagine your pet getting ingredients dripped into their eyes, smearing them onto their skin, injecting them into their bodies, force-feeding them, or making them inhale substances to see if they are harmful. You wouldn't want your pet to go through that so why make other animals?Animals should not be abused to test human products or chemicals. In the first place, they don't need to test on animals. There are other options.
There are three different things that we can do to make animal testing stop. First, according to the ASPCA, there is no reason for animal testing because of advanced technology. Instead of testing on animals, companies can use vitro screening methods. Vitro screens and methods test for endpoints which can determine any potential risks to humans. The machine's base the information on 3D human living tissues, to reach a mechanistic understanding of the skin’s biological response to the product.
Animal testing is the use of animals in a rarity of experiments use by universities, pharmaceutical companies, medical institutes, agricultural industry and military establishments. The reasons that human test on animals rather than on humans is that ethical consideration restrict the use of humans as subject for testing and the World Medical Association Decoration of Helsinki states that human trials should be preceded by animal trials. Animals are also appropriate subjects and models to test and research on as they share similar body systems to humans, where Chimps share 99% of their DNA with human and mice are98% genetically similar to humans. All species of mammals are the descendants of a common ancestor, and have the same set of organs
Abstract Animal testing the experiments performed on animals that are used to test the effectiveness and safety of a wide range of things, from medication to cosmetics. They are also used to understand how the human body works. Animal testing is one of the major controversial issues, but animal testing has dramatically contributed to science. First, some people think that animal testing should not be used for testing medical techniques and drugs. However, medical research involving animal testing improved the health of human beings.
There are many things the government keeps to themselves, one of them being animal testing. Most of the products used on a daily basis by the general population have been tested on animals. But, this testing isn't something any animal should have to experience. Although many people disagree with scientists about whether or not alternatives for animal testing are necessary, the government still requires unnecessary testing. There is obvious controversy between whether or not animal testing is beneficial or not.
After reading so many stories about the negative side of animal testing, then is there any positive affect about animal testing? The answer is yes, according to the article “Animal research is a source of human compassion, not shame” posted by Lancent. It points out the idea of the use of animals in medical research has save many people’s life. Without animal testing, there will be much less medical improvement than what we have right now, and there will be no new drugs for new or hard-to-treat diseases (815.
One of the most widely discussed issues is the argument over animal testing. Millions of animals at this moment are locked in cold cages of laboratories to be tested on. About 26.9 million animals each year are sacrificed and tested on under the name of medical research. All kinds of animals are needed for medical research such as amphibians, reptiles, birds, rats, mice, etc. Supporters say animal testing is beneficial for medical research and also a key discovery to all sorts of new cures and medicines.
