There are many things the government keeps to themselves, one of them being animal testing. Most of the products used on a daily basis by the general population have been tested on animals. But, this testing isn't something any animal should have to experience. Although many people disagree with scientists about whether or not alternatives for animal testing are necessary, the government still requires unnecessary testing.
There is obvious controversy between whether or not animal testing is beneficial or not. Scientists claim that without animal testing our society wouldn't have all the scientific advances that are available today, they also claim that they use animals to help understand human body processes better, and create new cosmetics, perfumes, test drugs, and explore cause and effects of cancer and diseases(Animal Experimentation). Therefore it would be very difficult to stop animal testing, but not impossible. PETA highly disapproves of the governments testing because "Some government-mandated tests kill more than 2,000 animals every time they are conducted, and not a single one of these animal tests has ever been formally proved to be relevant to or able to accurately predict human health effects"(U.S. Government Animal Testing Programs). The FDA tests on animals for food, drugs, biologicals, and medical devices(U.S. Food and Drug Administration). The EPA requires pesticides and other products be tested on dogs. Other organizations that animal test are the U.S. department of agriculture, and the National toxicology program, but those are only a couple(U.S. Government Animal Testing Programs).
