Pro Animal Testing Essay

Do you know how many animals are harmed in US labs each year? Both of these sides have valid points, but I think the side that claims animal testing is cruel has more experts, facts, and statistics to back it up. The three …show more content…

Many organizations are pushing the use of alternatives in labs. “The John Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and its Department of Environmental Health Sciences have been encouraging the development and use of in vitro (test-tube science using cells, tissues and organs) for toxicology to replace vivo (live animal) toxicology.” This is just one example from Beatrice Trum Hunter of organizations fighting to end vivo testing. “Scientists have even managed to coax cells to grow into 3D structures, such as miniature human organs, which can provide a more realistic way to test new therapies.” says crueltyfreeinternational.org. This is a more realistic way of testing medicines. It uses something similar to a human body that you can see, which is much different than using a rat, which has a different body than a human. Animal testing has also been found to be less accurate than in vitro testing. The alternatives are also more safe and effective than vivo testing. Neavs.org proves this point by saying “Epiderm, an in vitro test derived from cultured human skin cells, was found to be more accurate in identifying chemical skin irritants than traditional animal tests.” Alternatives to animal testing are safer, more effective, more accurate, and much cheaper than animal
