Animal Testing Every year more than one hundred million animals are tortured, burned, crippled and more ("New England Anti-Vivisection Society.") due to the cruel reality we call animal testing. Animal testing is when we test products and harmful, toxic chemicals on innocent animals to see if they are safe for human use (“Animal Testing.”). There are other alternatives but for some reason, many companies think killing and harming poor animals is the best way to know if something is okay to use. Animal testing should be stopped because it is inhumane, cruel, and it violates animals rights. Animals have basic rights that we “are entitled to respect” (Harnack, Andrew 20). It is fundamentally wrong to look at animals like our resources, …show more content…
Products like Aveeno, Vaseline, and Chapstick are some of the hundreds of products all tested on animals. A big majority of popular cosmetic companies test on animals like Maybelline, Neutrogena, Dove, and MAC. There are also other companies like Covergirl, L’Oreal, and Revlon who don’t test on animals in the U.S but they sell in China and in China there is a law that all products must be tested on animals ("Cruelty-Free Kitty). By buying these products we are just helping these companies to make more money to spend on harming animals. Most people do not even think about how things you buy on a weekly basis, things you use on a daily basis, and just things are around your house are tested on animals. Most products that do not test on animals are not as common, or popular as those that do. Some products that do not test on animals include Burt’s Bees, NYX, Milani, Lush, and Elf ("Cruelty-Free Kitty”). There were more but unfortunately the list of brands that do test on animals was almost double the amount of brands that do …show more content…
Animal testing is not the most reliable way to determine if a drug is safe for human use. A study done by the U.S Food and Drug Administration showed that ninety two percent of drugs entering clinical trials fail to be approved (Capaldo, Theodora). Animal testing is also very expensive and by figuring out new ways to test drugs and products we can save millions of animals and dollars. We are now able to create computer models and simulations of human organs and the researches are able to predict the way new drugs will react in the human body (“Alternatives to Animal Testing”) Other alternatives include cell cultures, micro dosing, and even donated human tissue. Cell cultures also known as Vitro Testing is when human cells are grown to mimic human organs and the structure of them. “These chips can be used to replace disease research, toxicity testing, and drug research” (“Alternatives to Animal Testing”). Vitro testing has also been proved to be more accurate than animal testing. Micro dosing is when humans are given very small quantities of a drug to test the effects on the body on the cellular level without affecting the entire body system. Animal testing is not always accurate so these new developments of testing can benefit us
