No Animals Were Harmed… Much Have you ever thought about what pain animals go through for the benefit of us during experimentations? A study with the Charles River Laboratories went horribly wrong in 2005. Every day for five days three dogs were forced to ingest a substance which later led them to “labored breathing and a high heart rate.” They also become too cold to the touch and later died one day later. There are many other horrendous examples, too numerous to mention. We need to be smart about the use of animals in experimentation … if companies and scientists abuse them, you will lose them. Well, reading through my article will help you see, as well as change your opinion toward animal experimentation. Animal experimentation is defined as the use of non-human animals in experiments that control the variables in which affect the behavior or biological system beneath study. Each year, more than 100 million animals (primarily mice and rats) are killed world wide (peta.org – 2014) for research purposes. If we don’t stop this, extinction may occur for certain animals. Many people say that animal testing is unreliable – if so, why does …show more content…
Animal experimentation is an extremely unique topic to write about because it isn’t every day that you hear about it in the news and I would like to bring it to people’s attention for that very reason. Animal experimentation leads as far back as 300-200 BC and has continued until this very day and will into the future. During testing, many animals are used including mice, fish, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs/ hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats and dogs, mini-pigs, and non-human primates (monkeys, and in some countries, chimpanzees). Although animal testing has contributed to many life-saving cures and treatments, the drugs that pass animal tests are not always safe for humans to consume or
