Did you know that 92 percent of of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work (Do Something)? Everyday animals are harmed in cruel testing for scientific purposes. In 2015 a beagle named Nelly was shoot then abandon on the side of the road because the test she was being used for were over. Just like so many other animals Nelly had gone thru cruel testing for most of her life and was deprived of the love and comfort that she needed. In this essay information will be provided to explain what animal testing is, why the testing is not valid, and that there are other testing methods.

This is not alway true the anatomic, metabolic, and cellular difference between animals and people make animals poor models for human beings (NEAVS). Just because a drug is effective on animals does not mean that it will work for humans, but often times when a drug works on animals problems are over looked and it is released for human consumption. For example in the 1950 a sleeping pill that was tested on animals had no ill effects on them but when on humans it caused 10,000 babies to be born with severe deformities (Science Museum UK). Another drug called Vioxx was shown having a protective effect on the animal’s heart so it was released to the public. It was later found that when used by humans it caused more than 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths (Rogers). Also over 100 drugs for stroke that worked on animals proved ineffective in humans and over 85 HIV vaccines also proved ineffective when used by humans (Akhtar). Another problem with animal testing is that if the drug have a por effect on the animal testing for it's use in humans may be stopped. This may cause drugs that are helpful when used by humans to not be released to them.
