Animal experimentation has been happening for hundreds of years, ever since the mid 19th century. The world is filled with millions of animals that can be tested on. While experiments are still being done on animals, that will possibly change the near future. With all the technological advancements a machine was created that replicates important human tissues and even organs. Since not all laboratories are using that kind of technology, a wide range of animals are still being tested on. With how many animals that are being tested on, is it harmful? Each year, millions of invertebrates get tested on. During these experiments it should be pain free, but that’s not the case. "The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported in 2010 that 97,123 animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief, including 1,395 primates, 5,996 rabbits, 33,652 guinea pigs, and 48,015 hamsters" (Animal Testing). While these animals were in pain they weren’t given anything to fix it. Most people don’t realize or acknowledge that animals do feel pain just like us. Since these animals are tested in laboratories they rarely see the light of day …show more content…
Just because it works on animals doesn’t mean it will work on humans. For example, there was a drug called thalidomide that was tested on animals that got released to the public afterwards and it caused major severities to babies because their parent was taking the pill while they were pregnant [Animal Testing]. “A 2013 study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) found that nearly 150 clinical trials (human tests) of treatments to reduce inflammation in critically ill patients have been undertaken, and all of them failed, despite being successful in animal tests" (Animal Testing). This study is an example of how well these experimentations
