A weapon created for war and destruction. A firearm designed to kill as many people as possible. The most controversial gun of the 21st century, the AR-15. The Armalite AR-15 is a firearm widely spread out amongst the american population. It is used by gun enthusiasts and normal people alike. The AR-15 comes standard with a 30 round magazine and can fire relatively 400 rounds per minute semi-automatic. These features come standard with many other firearms such as the SCAR. (Ratner)According to Paul Ratner with Big Think, he states in his article that the AR-15 is used in the majority of mass shootings which is entirely false. (FBI) The FBI released information proving that rifles like the AR-15 are not the most used firearm in mass shootings. Rather, handguns are used more than rifles. In these 10 years, firearm deaths stayed almost the same. (Rosenwald) From 1994 to 2004 during the ban, there were 19 total mass shootings. After the ban was cleared, 21 mass shootings occurred. So having a re-ban on the AR-15 will likely cause no difference between whether it’s banned, or not banned.

With several mass shootings happening, many people want to see the AR-15 and other modern sporting rifles gone. There is a current divide between people wanting to keep them and others wanting to outright ban them. Recently votes on bans have been happening with many states voting to keep the style rifles. But, how can we keep this rifle but still keep it out of the hands who should not have
