Introduction What is Bunker and Bunkering? The term of bunker is merely a name that is given to fuel, which is used to operate a ship, or the tanks they are stored in. It is derived from a historic reference to coal bunkers used in the days of steam and sail. Whereas, bunkering is a process of supplying a ship with fuel or to store the fuel in the bunker. Bunkering is an important part of our lives. This is because about 90% of the global trade are transported by sea, the quality, price, availability as well as safe handling of the fuel that powers the engines of thousands of ships that sail around the world, are all essentially vital. There are two different types of marine fuels, which include distillate fuel and residual fuel. Distillate fuel called diesel or gas oil, which is, lighter, cleaner and easier to use.
