Despite being a reader who gets bored easily, “Andean Cocaine” has provided me with an interesting and broad worldview about a very specific part of Latin American culture. I particularly found fascinating how a simple plant cultivated by indigenous tribes
Drug trafficking generates an estimated $13.6 billion annually, making it one of the most profitable industries in the country. However, this money is not being invested in legitimate businesses and the overall economy. Instead, the cartel uses this money to fuel their illegal activities, such as
Escobar did everything in his power to create the best cocaine and make the most money that he could. By creating new drug trade routes throughout the Caribbean and finding new ways to spread his cocaine throughout Colombia and other nations, he ran one of the largest drug cartels in the world. Pablo Escobar not only had the most widespread cocaine industry in the world, but also had the best cocaine anyone could find. Pablo Escobar knew what he was doing when he sold his drugs, and he made sure they were the best on the market. His cocaine was so good that not only did it make its debut throughout Colombia, but made its way to America as well, where the demand rose even more than before.
Because their job is illegal, all cartel members get “under the table pay” so banks can't question them about the amount of money they put in their account. The drugs most cartels control and sell are cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine. Most of the drugs the cartels sell, you can get from a prescribed medication from doctors they just have different names.
The FARC has always managed to produce a high number of income through ransomes of kidnapping, international drug money, and illegal mining. On Council of Foreign Affairs, authors Danielle Renwick, and editor Stephanie Hanson state, “ InSight Crime, an online publication that specializes in organized crime in Latin America and Caribbean, put a conservative estimate at $200 million in 2012, while Colombian Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon said the figure could be as high as $3.5 billion” (Renwick, F.E.C.L.G). The FARC’s biggest client, is the United States. According to Danielle Renwicks article, about sixty percent of the cocaine produced in Colombia is exported to the United States. According to a published article Jeremy McDermott, The FARC tax cocaine growers fifty perecent per kilo, buyers two hundred dollars per kilo, tax production a hundred dollars per kilo, and a flight tax that is also a hundred dollars per kilo.
And generally, the possession of cocaine and trafficking is prohibited if anyone have the possession of cocaine or involve in trafficking of cocaine then he will punish with severe penalties. Demand remains high, and consequently, black market cocaine is quite expensive. Unprocessed cocaine, such as coca leaves, are occasionally purchased and sold, but this is exceedingly rare as it is much easier and more profitable to conceal and smuggle it in powdered form. The scale of the market is immense: 770 tones times $100 per gram retail = up to $77
The cannabis market is the largest with 10.3% of Australians using the drug in 2010 . The cultivation can involve small-scale production for personal use to large operations for the purpose of distribution . Cocaine is mainly supplied by Columbia, Peru and Bolivia with the market being dominated by entrenched criminal groups such as those from Columbia and Mexico . The high price of cocaine in Australia has made it an attractive market for these groups .
Cocaine and Crack Cocaine Cocaine is an illegal drug in the United States. It is a chemical obtained from the leaves of the coca plant. When thinking about how the United States economy works, its based of a market system. As a society we create businesses that either sell a service, or a product. Now if we compare this idea, to the drug market, it simply is the same matter. For example, Pablo Escobar is a famous drug kingpin, from Cuba. He ran some of the most famous, and dangerous drug cartels in the world, and at his peak moment, his net worth was $30 billion.
Cocaine comes from high mountain ranges in South America. Cocaine is grown from the cocoa plant and was originally not used as a drug to get high on. At first in the 1880s, Cocaine was used for medical purposes.
When you dry the plant it then becomes marijuana. It is one of the most used illegal drugs around. Marijuana has a chemical called THC. This chemical reaches your brain really fast. In less than thirty seconds as a matter of fact.

Drug trafficking being a worldwide business has led to becoming the “world’s primary revenue source for organized crime and the illicit drug industry now accounts for an estimated $320 billion dollars annually” (The International Drug War). Many would wonder, where does all the money found in drug busts go afterwards? Answer is, the money is divided among the department that did the bust and with the Department of Justice or the Department of Treasury, it all depends on what agency made the bust.
When I say this, listen well, because this may save your life. Cocaine (also known as coke, snow, and many other street terms), is a very dangerous and addictive drug. You may think you can just “try” it one time and to “see” what it’s like, but that is not the
Drug trafficking is the mass-production of drugs in one country distributed to another for expected profit. The notorious bosses of the drug trafficking at the time were the infamous Pablo Escobar, Carlos Lehder, and Griselda Blanco. The two main smuggled drugs were cocaine and marijuana. They were smuggled by plane, boat, and human mules. To hide the abundant profits they’d money launder, hide money in safe, and even went to the extent of having their money built into house walls just to avoid the law.
