The Truth About Factory Farms
Approximately 80% of the antibiotics used in the United States are given to farm animals. Factory farming give the animals antibiotics which in return is what is in the meat consumers buy in the store and cook at home. With the misguided farm policies that the government has, has led livestock producers to become larger. 99% of the meat in the United States comes from factory farms. Animals are kept in small crowded areas with no place for the animals to move around in small private farms there is less animals, so it is not as crowded and the animals have room to move around and graze. Factory farming needs to be regulated and inspected more because they treat animals inhumane, the use of antibiotics harmful to people and animals, and forcing private farms to go bankrupt. …show more content…

Factory farms today account for 72% of all the poultry production and 55% of the pork production in the United States (Dreibelbis). With these numbers growing every year it is putting family farms in jeopardy. Factory farms are able to produce their meat so quickly and with little expense which in return they can charge less for their meat. Family farms does not have the ability to do that because they let their animals grow naturally which takes them longer to grow. Private farms meat is more expensive than meat that comes from factory farm (Dreibelbis). The public looks at it that why should they buy the more expensive meat when they can get it cheaper in the store. If one would sit down and think about what makes this meat so inexpensive they might have a different look at it. Factory farms are decreasing the market price on the animals they raise (HFA). This contributes to why private farms cannot get enough money for their animals to make a profit. With the prices falling private farmers are struggling to stay
