Would I genetically engineer my child?
If I was put in the position to where I can either genetically I would because the benefits if I do definitely outway the negatives. The topic of Genetic Engineering has been one that is surrounded in controversy. Some people consider the practice to unethical, however I believe that the positives that can be accomplished from the practice can introduce a new, safer method of having a child. The reasons why genetic engineering can make a child’s future more secured are it can prevent negative health effects for my child, can certify that my child will be born safe, and can give my child the advantage that possibly some other children will have.

In the movie Gattaca, the people who weren’t genetically engineered we’re undoubtedly the bottom of society, and those who were had the top jobs of the society. If the technology is available, then more people would want to have this advantage for their children, making it increasingly more difficult for a “de-gene-erate” to compete with a normally birthed person. In the video about China Engineering Smarter Babies, they discussed the fact that China is using a technology where they spot the best DNA and use the embryo the best genes possible from their respective gene pool. With this information, we can already tell that other countries are on the rise with modifying unborn children to make them as best as possible. I don’t want to be left behind in this advancement, so if I could, I would use this technology on my child. My personal opinion is that I would because I would want my child to have the same advantage that the other genetically engineered children would
