Whether watching the local or national news, reading the newspaper, listening to the radio or political debates, or reading social media, a person is exposed to controversies and commentators opinions regarding current events. Due to the number of mass shootings and the large percentage of homicides, gun control is a hot topic. Many people believe that more restrictions on gun ownership will decrease these statistics. Although gun control may seem like a great idea on paper, when it is put into action the results are actually harmful and unconstitutional.
Gun control has become a big part of every politician’s platform and every American’s safety. Gun control laws will prohibit gun ownership without excessive registration procedures. As of now, gun owners of most states are not required to register their weapons with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). These laws will take …show more content…

Gun control will bring an end to hobbies and traditions such as hunting and shooting competitions which date back hundreds of years. Individuals will no longer have the means of protecting themselves from criminals. Many believe that gun control will decrease gun violence and homicides. The reduced presence of firearms in households with young children teaches them to deal with their problems using methods other than violence.
Gun control should exist in moderation. If there was no gun control at all, anyone would be allowed to purchase a gun at any time regardless of their background. Gun control will only be effective for law abiding citizens. Criminals will not give up the weapons they currently possess and will still obtain them through illegal means. Background checks, although very time consuming, will partially eliminate criminal gun possession while allowing law abiding citizens to partake in the hobbies and traditions they are passionate
