In San Diego cali. school there was a shooting with a 15 year old who killed 2 people and injured 13. Some say that he was smiling when he pulled the trigger. this event and many others have lead to the demand for stricter gun laws. however, gun laws punish honest citizens.
The con side of gun control laws made good points as to why more laws would not be in the benefit of the people but they did not provide credible sources to increase the credibility of their claims. A lot of their references included well known newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune and the NY Times. While they did reference the Supreme Court, US Fish and Wildlife Services, and the Heritage Foundation I believe that these few sources are not enough to support their claims and make them credible. When looking at their Top Con quotes I found that they used a lot more credible sources such as US representatives, senators, and the Founder and President of Crime Prevention Research Center. Therefore they were able to make their claims more credible.
In 1987, the bill that would soon become a law and make buying guns safer was introduced in congress. This bill was named after James Brady hints the name, “Brady Bill.” James Brady was the White House Press Secretary at the time. He was permanently disabled after receiving a gunshot wound to his forehead in 1981, in the attempted Ronald Reagan assassination. This bill required licensed firearms importers, manufactures, or dealers to wait five days before selling a handgun to another person not licensed under federal law.
On September 25 of 1789 our founding fathers constructed the Constitution of the United States, Which included the second Amendment where it allowed civilians the right as American to bear arms. On October 22,1968 president Lyndon B. Johnson signed a The Gun Control law of 1968. The Gun control act of 1968 was part of a “great society” movement by president Johnson that was initiated after the assassination of president Kennedy (Eakins). In the 1994 ban signing by president Clinton and the federal government, which imposed 19 types of military-style weapons to be banned for ten- years. This legislation was intended to reduce the gun violence and decreased national tragedies.
With so many shootings arising these days, many people wonder whether handguns should be banned or not. Some people say it is a part of American history and that they would not be here today without guns. While others believe that the country would be more peaceful and safe if the guns were illegal. The problems that come with banning guns are endless and could possibly cause many more problems than necessary or intended. Having a handgun is a way of protection and self defense.
Criminals don’t follow laws. Gun control laws are more oppressive on citizens than criminals, which is literally someone who has broken, or is breaking, a law. Why are some gun control laws and rulings so heavily pushed? Especially considering that the majority of these laws have very little actual basis aside from the “guns are scary and bad” train of thought. This is going to be going into why most of these laws, current, and proposed, make no sense such as the Magazine Capacity bans that some states are putting in place, the entirety of the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA), and the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban(AWB).
In this day and time, there are a plethora of new laws being made because of the number of homicides that have been committed, killing numerous innocent citizens. This has forced our government to try and take a stand by making these laws. Including the gun control laws, the gun control laws are why I am making my essay to begin with, I want to share my thoughts on gun control laws from a pro gun prospective. I believe that we should not have gun control laws for numerous reasons. The first reason is a gun doesn’t kill a person its man on man crime.
Criminals are also humans too, and it is in human nature to be naturally afraid of something that can potentially kill. It has been shown before that criminals go after the people they consider weak and alone, therefore, going after those who are unarmed. It's known that criminals fear armed citizens and will probably be thrown off by the knowledge that everyday citizens can go out to stores and purchase guns. But if gun control laws changes that, an unarmed citizen that would have a gun could be in a lot of trouble.
Gun control laws have become too much. There are too many gun control laws in the United States. Laws are not going to scare criminals who have a past record or are set on hurting people. Firearms can protect people that have valuable items on them or in their house. There is becoming less criminal with the more purchases or weapons.
The Brady Act would be strength based if there were not loopholes in the law for getting guns such as not requiring background checks for private sellers, online gun dealers, and trade shows. However, new laws that close the loopholes and tighter gun control laws that include several laws are strength based because they do lower the death rates and violence caused from firearms. Research studies show a correlation between states that do have strict gun laws compared to others that are lax. One study done by the “researchers at Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard School of Public Health, uses a measure of state-by-state legislative strength of gun control policies tracked by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence,
Gun control laws should be more strict because there has been to many shoot outs all over the world, this has caused many people to die. The most recent shoot outs have been in turkey and many other places. With stricter gun laws there would not be as many shoot outs. Not only shoot outs but other killings. There should be way more strict gun laws because it would make better communities and better neighborhoods.
Throughout human history, crime and violence has existed and will never cease to exist. As time passed, more and more different kinds of weapons were created to help deter crime and its related violence. The invention of guns was the most successful as they are used by a large majority of people. Along with their invention came the gun crimes. Guns are the best means of defense as they are so lethal and due to this fact, the want for restrictive gun control laws has been a constant subject of debate.
Gun Laws More gun control laws should not be put into place. Some people might disagree but most gun control laws that are trying to be passed are to ban rifles and some are to make it harder and almost impossible to get a gun. The NRA has sued states over this because these laws that states want to be passed are unconstitutional and infringe upon the second amendment, the Right to Bear Arms. More gun control laws should not be put into place. First off, the second amendment of the US constitution protects individual gun ownership.
People are smart and will find a way to get around the law if one is created to ban guns. People have done this with the topic of drugs; since drugs are illegal, people have resorted to get high off of new legal substances like sharpies. Using this as an example of what people do to get around the law will help prove that if guns are banned, people would create a new way of harming someone. This new harmful invention could potentially become worse that using a gun ever was. These examples go back to how the guns don’t decide if they want to kill a person, they don’t have a brain; it is the people behind the gun pulling the trigger deciding that they want to commit an illegal and harmful act upon another human being or living animal (Larry Greenemeier).
Violence is around us and always happens. Even guns are associated with violence. This needs to stop and the problem needs to be fixed now. Guns have gotten a bad reputation over its time and have become worse due to crime. That is why gun laws were made to control the use of gun ownership, and to reduce crime.
