Passing gun control legislation that creates a universal background check and gun database system as well as passing mental health legislation that improves the health care system’s protocols and policies for assisting people with mental health disorders and that enacts counseling programs in communities and schools will decrease the likelihood of mass shootings in schools. The United States is bitterly divided. Issues of great concern, such as the rise of mass shootings, are partisanized. Both sides of the debate will not comprise or listen to what their opponents have to say. Groups from both sides can only agree that one innocent life taken from gun violence is one too many.
As Americans we are no longer safe. Instead of more gun control, we need to strongly look at concealed carry laws. This law has the potential to reduce crime, and prevent mass shootings. Most importantly, it is our constitutional right. First and most importantly, it is clear that concealed carry laws reduce crime.
In San Diego cali. school there was a shooting with a 15 year old who killed 2 people and injured 13. Some say that he was smiling when he pulled the trigger. this event and many others have lead to the demand for stricter gun laws. however, gun laws punish honest citizens.
Owning guns or banning them is a highly controversial topic in the United States today. Everytime, there is a mass shooting or violence commited the issue resurfaces. The real question is should the government make strict gun control laws and legislations? Would it help to decrease the crime rate or will it be the opposite effect? The nation is divided on this issue, some believe there should be bans on guns some think there shouldn't be any.
The U.S may not come to an agreement on gun reform anytime in the near future but there have been agreements on gun reform in the country’s past. One of the first gun legislation passed was the National Firearms Act. The bill was “designed to make it difficult to obtain types of fire- arms perceived to be especially lethal or to be the chosen weapons of ‘gangsters’” (Gun Control Overview 5). The bill was designed to combat the amount of gang violence occurring in the early 1920s.
The U.S. is in dire need of stricter gun control laws. Many citizens would refute this claim, however, not the majority. In fact, the large majority of United States citizens are in agreement that stricter gun control is needed (Spitzer). Why then are so few gun control bills passed into law? The answer is influence, and perhaps even more so passion.
I think its good that Obama thinks we need a gun law because over the years we have seen a spark in mass shooting. But I also understand that its our right to bare arms. But I hope that congress can come to a action plan to form a bill that has limitations on guns. I think that we should have a mental check on people to see if they are in the right mindset to have a gun. We need to try to get the selling of illegally down.
The law is never something to take lightly especially when the specific law is set in place to prevent the loss of human life. Gun control laws have a basis set by the federal government and are expanded upon by each individual state as they deem fit. Federal gun laws and state gun laws have their similarities and differences, but both are set in place as a barrier of protection against those who could cause bodily harm to others if equipped with such power that a gun holds. The U.S federal Government has its own set of regulations concerning firearms and the state of California builds upon them to create a stronger gun policy, meaning both sets of codes and regulations have similarities and differences, but no matter the differences, these laws are set in place to prevent massacres like the Las Vegas, Nevada shooting, and while California gun laws are built upon federal laws, they can be improved for a safer more controlled environment. Federal gun laws are the foundation for state laws and the building blocks for more advanced restrictions set by individual
1st Amendment: The First Amendment of the United States Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridg-ing the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” In short, this amendment prohibits the establishment of a state religion, protects freedom of the press and speech, and protects the right to assemble and petition the government. The establishment clause enforces the separation of church and state and prohibits the government from restricting a citizen’s religious practices and forbids the government from forcing religion onto its citizens.
Why take away the protection and recreational shooting practices of innocent citizens because others are irresponsible? Gun control laws are a major issue being discussed in the U.S. right now. Some believe that by condemning the availability of firearms to all, criminals and people with mental illnesses will be less likely to attain firearms. However they are then violating the people’s second amendment right, which give them the right to bear arms. According to the article on “Gun Control Laws” from the Issues and Controversies database, It all started on “June 12, 2016, when a gunman killed 49 at a gay nightclub in Orlando Florida.”
How can the crime be done if there are stricter limits for owning guns? If so many people didn’t have ownership of guns would homicide be a problem? Often times authority do not need stricter penalties they just need stricter gun control laws. Although gun laws are good for making sure guns don’t end up in the wrong hands, it also limits citizen’s rights to be able defend themselves if something goes wrong. Homicide is a major problem in the U.S.
Mass shootings, people shooting police, other citizens, kids, and harming the innocent, is unfortunately the world we live in today. Many Americans, myself included, wish there was one fell swoop law, rule or act of magic for that matter that would stop all this reckless destruction overnight. The hidden truth is that even if we take guns away, or ban certain items, people will always find ways to harm others. One major item many Americans want to see happen is tighter, and more gun control laws. Personally I believe that some of the laws we have asked for will not help any of our problems, but instead make many legal gun owners become criminals simply because of the weapons they choose for defense, hunting, or sports shooting.
The United States was built and protected with guns. However, today so many individuals misuse the fact that as Americans we our guaranteed the right to own a weapon. With this misuse, Americans are wavering on the fact that lawmakers will take our guns away or make it more difficult to get a gun. In this essay I will explain the gun laws, reason to change legal age in which to buy a gun, and reason not to change the legal age to purchase a gun.
Loopholes are another part of this grand argument, used by the side opposed to gun control, saying that loopholes are impossible to close, while the pro gun control side argues that stricter gun control and background checks make these loopholes not an issue. Both sides can be easily argued, but there is only one side that can save countless lives. Stricter gun control will work to pr otect citizens by limiting gun violence, keeping Second Amendment rights, and closing gun loopholes. Gun control and background checks go hand in hand, as background checks act as an aid to enforce safety. Background checks significantly curb gun
was born and raised in Vietnam where guns are not commonly used. It is really rare for a person to own a gun in Vietnam, which was why I was shocked when I moved here because here people allow to carry guns with them. I grew up in culture where guns associate with violence. I just don’t think owning a gun would make you any safer because once you got that gun on your hand, you are more likely to hurt someone. Carrying a gun, give you reason to pull that trigger.
