SUMMARY The research subject was originally “What is ethical about human genetic modification?”. I chose human genetic engineering as a research topic as the possibility of its practise excited me. More particularly, my research focused on ethics because I wanted to form an opinion of whether it was right to practise HGE. My research question changed to ‘Should human genetic engineering be legalised in Australia?’ during research. This change occurred as investigating only the ethics of HGE was limiting and the legalisation of it was heavily debated online. The main ways I collected information was through websites, conducting interviews and surveys and watching youtube videos and TedXTalks. Through research I concluded that there are many risks to human genetic engineering but important benefits as well such as combatting genetic diseases. These risks can be minimised through research on human genetic engineering. Therefore, human genetic engineering should be legalised for only research in Australia. __________________________________________________________________________________ EVALUATION OF THE RESEARCH PROCESSES Survey …show more content…

The survey I conducted was slightly invalid because some surveyors contrasted their opinions through the survey. For example, they may state that “Human genetic modification should be restricted to only be used to remove disorders and diseases” but later in the survey state that “Genetic modification should be allowed without restrictions”. Such answers made it difficult to comprehend what the surveyor actually believed. As the survey was created this year the data from it is highly reliable in that sense. This source was useful as it was relevant to my subquestion “what are the ethical concerns against human genetic engineering?” and my
