"The internet gives Americans the opportunity to connect, grow, and prosper in an age that is rapidly advancing in technology. Therefore, with this great power at the tips of fingertips, there must be regulations and enforcers ready to step in to combat the many accompanying dangers. This has lead to much debate over how much monitoring power the local, state, and federal governments should have.
To begin, the driving agencies behind internet monitoring must be addressed. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the country-wide agency that protects and regulates what US citizens accomplish on the internet. In addition to the FCC is the National Security Agency (NSA). They work to protect against all threats to the nation. Today many international threats are made more problematic through the internet. This being said, it makes sense that NSA and the FCC are working together closely to help monitor the content on the internet.

The fourth amendment is perhaps the most important to note when these contradicting ideas arise. It states that any citizen is free from unwarranted searches or seizures. Those in favor of a less intrusive FCC or NSA will argue that their power to look into a citizen’s search history and internet activity is a direct violation of the fourth amendment. Upon further inspection, one might realize that the problem goes deeper than just privacy or protection. Both of these freedoms should be able to exist together, without negating each
