The question is torture acceptable circulates above our society today. There are many pros and cons to the process. Countries around the world use such techniques to protect and defend their country. Keeping our people safe is one of the biggest advantages to advanced techniques. Although some people think that interrogation is cruel, it saves lives, helps and protects our country, and serves justice where it is needed. Interrogation saves millions of lives and gets valuable information, We have learned of and captured terrorists who were planning to attack because of interrogation. “There are centrists, who well understand our enemies are covert operatives bent on killing us, in sneak attacks and that the only way to foil them is to get information about who they are and when and where they will strike next” (McCarthy). To sit back and do nothing is not going to protect citizens lives. We must protect our country.“ Torture is justified if it saves innocent lives” (Friedman). The United States and many other countries first priority is to keep us safe. The United States and others are waging a war against terrorism. For our country this war often takes the form of conventional military operations in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. Terrorism has become a much greater security threat than before. “The captured terrorists of the twenty first century do not fit easily into traditional systems of criminal or military justice, which were designed for different needs. We need to adapt” (Bauder). We cannot let situations go too long. We must act quickly to solve the problem. “There is a specific time pressure and knowledge, and there is no other possible way to retrieve that information” (McCarthy).
