Currently the legal drinking age is 21, and there have been many controversial debates on whether to lower the age or not. However, there are both pros and cons to this topic. One of the biggest argument in favor of lowering the drinking age is that in United States, an eighteen years old can do so many things then why not drinking. For example, an 18 years old can vote for the presidential elections, have license to drive, pay taxes, marr, can be a legal guardian, own a gun, fight in a war, and can be a governor of a state. When an 18 years old is allowed to do all of the following above then why not allowed to be drinking. One can easily argue, that an 18 years old can fight for the country on the border but is not allowed to drink. If the adults are allowed to drink, they will drink under supervision and the safe way. Because otherwise, adults will drink not because they want to but they want to break the rules for excitement and fun in life. On the other hand other might say that the younger a person begins to drink alcohol the more likely it is that they will use other illicit drugs. Lowering the age would increase the number of teens who drink and therefore the number of teens who use other drugs. And once the teens get addicted to drugs, and it is impossible for them to leave and it can ruin their future. If adults know that they can drink at age of 18 , the probably ill think it is okay to take drugs at the age of 18.
