Trump was the winner of the recent presidential election; would the results of the election have ended differently if we included 16 and 17 year olds in the ballot count? Voting is a vital part for decision making within America’s democracy, so the nation should be as careful and serious as possible when voting to make decisions. The best outcomes for our country would be made by people who researched and thought through their opinions. If inadequately educated, less active members of society are allowed to use their input for the decisions of our nation, the results may be different than what the majority of Americans want. The voting age should not be lowered to 16 due to the lack of political knowledge and maturity of that age group which causes them to repeat the political views of those surrounding them. …show more content…

However the teenagers wishing to vote do not have enough quality education to make the best decision for their interest. Recent studies in the Chicago Tribune show that teens ages 14 to 18 lacked a developed mindset that is necessary to make decisions based on facts (The Pros and Cons of Lowering the Voting Age). American childhood is not declared to be changed into adulthood until they complete a full education and are eligible for military services at age 18 (Youth Must Study Citizenship Before Voting). The development and maturity of youth and adolescence is not strong enough before the age of 18 to be beneficial for decision
