Organizations around the world can be categorized in one of the two segments, for-profit and not-for-profit in accordance to their earning and spending approach. For-profits are commercial organizations with an agenda of economic growth and expansion. Whereas, not-for-profits strive for development, promotion and protection of the rights of mankind, mother-nature, animal kingdom and so on and so forth. Undocumented welfare work days back to the history of mankind, however, it wasn’t until the peak of the industrial revolution in 1800s when the Civil Rights Organizations began to take shape in the West. Exceptional contributions of the Civil Rights Movement and earlier NGOs includes their relentless influence on the governments that led to the development and implementation of laws to protect and promote labour rights and preservation of the environment. Particularly in recent years, not-for-profit sector is sweating heavily to develop a ‘corporate culture’. Although, this seems fine at first, however, one important aspect must not be overlooked; not-for-profit is a donation driven sector, it has no money of its own, building and maintaining a corporate look means an overhead to an already existing financial burden.
Typically, welfare work with a humble start becomes complex as an organization grows. While the fundamental values may persist at the topmost level, they tend to diminish as one goes further from the core. Consequently, down the hierarchy organizational values and objectives are often compromised over career and growth. This fact is evident from the records of job switching statistics in social development sector. Naturally, if seen in a larger picture this ‘jumping jack’ attitude have a significant toll on the overall social development
