When it comes to the debate on whether or not to pay college athletes, Purdue basketball coach Matt Painter offers this thought: “If you want to get paid, or think the system is wrong, go pro. That’s what the pros are for” (DiPrimio). We should not pay college athletes to play sports at their college. You don’t get paid to go to college, you get an education. Not all colleges have the money to be able to pay their athletes the same amount. When you pay the athletes you also have to pay the white athletes and black athletes the same because it is something that could easily not happen. The athletes are getting treated better than most students at the school with their nice facilities,top of the line trainers, and tutors. Most regular students have to pay for college themselves or are on financial aid. The athletes though are most likely getting their college paid for, which is saving them a lot of money. The current system of providing student-athletes with help on tuition and room and board has been "overwhelmingly successful in helping people to get an education and go on and do great things in their lives (Torry). Helping athletes pay for living and college has helped them greatly in college and beyond. Ohio State’s President, Michael Drake, pointed out his "father was a student-athlete many years ago," and probably "wouldn't have gone to college otherwise” (Torry).
