A police detective interrogates possible suspects to get new leads. “Understanding what motivates criminal behavior can help officers to conduct successful interrogations, especially in violent crimes such as rape.”(Merrill, William F. ,Pg 8) Interrogation although it may be hard is key to finding leads. “Before interrogating rape suspects, investigators must conduct a comprehensive analysis of the crime and the crime scene.”(Merrill, William F., Pg 8) There is a lot of work that goes into interrogation, an analysis of a probable suspect. “Intelligence-gathering should be completed rapidly to prevent the suspect from learning the nature of the investigation and attempting to destroy evidence or to intimidate victims and witnesses”(Merrill, …show more content…

“Traditional crimes, such as fraud, counterfeiting, embezzlement, telecommunications theft, prostitution, gambling, money laundering, child pornography, fencing operations, narcotics sales, and even stalking, all could be computer related.”(Goodman Marc, Pg 10) Many modern crimes are committed on the web because it provides access to data that could destroy someone’s life if used the wrong way so it’s a police detective’s job to handle cyber crime. “When compared to murder, rape, or violent assaults, computer crime may seem trivial. But, a person who asks an executive who loses his life savings due to the theft of intellectual property from his computer hard drive will get a different answer.”(Goodman Marc, Pg 10) The loss of technology in someone’s possession can lead to very private information being taken from them like social security numbers and bank accounts. “Crimes involving high technology across multiple jurisdictions, are not covered by a single cohesive international law, become harder to track because of anonymity, result in expensive investigations, complicate efforts in obtaining forensic evidence, and require police to have specialized knowledge for a successful investigation.” (Goodman Marc, Pg 10) On a computer related crime there can be no trail or leads for the police to follow because the data can just be erased. Police detectives are responsible for finding and solving cases involving human trafficking. “Not surprisingly, gaining the cooperation of victims as witnesses can prove challenging. Because of their distrust of police in their home countries, trafficking survivors usually fear U.S. law enforcement agents.”(Bales, Kevin, and Steven Lize, Pg 24) Police detectives have to get leads sometimes through witnesses and victims which isn’t a very easy task because they don’t trust the police force in general and they sometimes will use. “Human trafficking investigations require cooperation among numerous agencies and present many obstacles. As one investigator put it, "... the experience is very time consuming. You get one of these cases and ... live with it for months as opposed to a case you can pick up and put down, like white-collar crimes.”(Bales, Kevin, and Steven Lize, Pg 24) The process of finding people involved in or with human trafficking can take a long time so police detectives have to find ways to solve other cases while focusing on one case.
