The discussion of polling techniques relates because poll representations categorize people as for or against something, even when some people have no opinion. This supports Fiorina’s opinion, “The simple truth is that there is no culture war in the United states…”. The discussion of political influence is relevant because everyone has different opinions about everything. The different opinions are based upon political influences the person has encountered throughout their life. The discussion of media types and power is important because media influences the opinion of the
However, there are more voter participations, but women, Native Americans, and African Americans cannot
Public opinion polling acts as a measurement tool for the opinions and attitudes of the population. Poll organizations aggregates the opinions of the population to facilitate the study of their behavior and to deliver their voice to people in charge who can make decisions that serves their interest. Polls also plays an important role in protecting the voices of people from being immersed within the voices of public figures and media personnel. Everyone has the opportunity to express his opinion and an equal chance to be heard. In this paper, two public opinion poll organizations are examined with respect to their history, type and funding and methodology.
But most does not indicate a number. If it is a city, then most must include a majority of people out of the total voting strength. Here most can be 80 out of a 100 people which does not take into account the entire voting strength. Also it does not define the type of poll which was conducted and also it does not state where the poll was conducted. If it was an online poll, it is likely that a few amongst the total voting strength surf on the internet daily to participate in the poll.
Nowadays, the young generations are not aware of how important it is to go out to a poll and vote. Without the votes, voter turnout will continue to decline. The citizens should be more aware of what is going on, fight for their beliefs and issues, and make a
We aren’t even close to the full population voting during the election. From this past election, people still don’t understand how Clinton won the popular vote, and lost the election, and then they think this is all unfair. But that is not how the founding fathers had planned for it, because if the majority always won, then the minority would always lose. Also, there are so many people that don’t really understand politics and what each candidate represents and will do, if we
Contemporary barriers to voting vary among age, racial, social and economic groups. Younger people for instance have no time to vote particularly if there is a long line at the polling station. This barrier of inconvenience makes people lazy to a point they do not care enough to make an effort. Some feel they have little or no impact in the outcome of the election. Language is another contemporary barrier to voting.
Media often sways people’s perception on the candidate. I believe that voting doesn’t do us any good when it comes to electing the President of the United States of America or anyone elected to State Represenitive, Governor, or state local official. No matter who get the most popular vote or majority of the votes, the Electoral College always wins. To me this makes voting it senseless to me since the candidate that the American people have voted for will not get elected because of the Electoral College. The American voting system needs to be change to whoever wins the popular vote should win the election because that is who the American voters have
The political debate for and against felon disenfranchisement has compelling arguments on both sides. In the US, over 6 million felons are barred from voting due to laws that prevent felons with a sentence to vote (Chung). The number of imprisoned has been growing over the past 40 years, as the increasing number of imprisoned felons is directly correlated with an increasing number of disenfranchised felons. However, a more jarring statistic reveals that most disenfranchised felons in the United States are of a racial or ethnic minority. Based on information from the 2010 US Census Bureau, about 36 percent of disenfranchised felons are African American.
The sample of internet household is far higher as many household in the sample can’t be reached as they may have spam blockers that my prevent the survey from being viewed.
However, there are several ways to combat this problem. One way to get more voters to show up at the polls is have election officials mail ballots to all registered voters. This makes it easy for registered voters to select their candidates on their own time. This method to obtain more voters is in place in two states currently, Oregon and Washington. This method has proved effective because “in the 2010 midterm elections, just [Oregon and Washington] exceed 70 percent participation” (Koas).
CROWDSOURCING Refers to an article in the Convergence the international journal of research into new media technologies by Daren C.Brabham, Crowdsourcing as a Model for Problem Solving; crowdsourcing is the act of a company or institution taking a function once performed by employees and outsourcing it to an undefined (and generally large) network of people in the form of an open call. This can take the form of peer-production (when the job is performed collaboratively), but is also often undertaken by sole individuals. The crucial prerequisite is the use of the open call format and the large network of potential laborers (Brabham, 2008). Simply says that crowdsourcing is the process acquiring needed services, ideas, or content by requesting
Introduction Psychological research and its findings have profound impact on people, relationships, and institutions in our society (Willig, 2013). However, as any other study, psychological researchers are faced with enormous limitations including inappropriate designs or methodologies due inadequacy of professionals (Wang, et al., 2015), geographical differences that impacts on generalizations (Smith, 2015), and time pressure that negatively affects the quality of a research (Punch, et al., 2014). Language barrier and lack of literature or poorly done review are other factors that affect psychological research (Willig, 2013). Limitations Limited number of professionals in the psychological research is one of the key limitations to this field of study. Psychological research depends on observations, experimentation, and evidence, hence the need for critical methodological designs (Shipman, 2014).
QUANTITATIVE REASONING By definition, Quantitative Reasoning (QR) is the ability to apply mathematical skills when solving real world problems that are happening in our daily lives. It is being able to read numerical data that is presented in tables, formulas and graphs. Quantitative Reasoning is often assumed to have the same meaning as Mathematics and indeed these two are complicatedly linked. Yet they have differences, one of which is that while QR is a skill, Mathematics is primarily a discipline.
Public opinion is not measured by asking every individual in the population questions about his or her opinions. In a nation of for example 270 million people, doing so would be impossible. Instead, pollsters ask a small group of individuals a set of questions and then generalize from their findings about that group to the larger population. Choosing a group of individuals out of a population that is representative of the entire population and then accurately measuring the opinions of those individuals is technical. Developing your opinions about issues affecting the
