Polluted runoff has been considered a problem almost invisible to the policy makers of Puget Sound. It has thus not attracted any media attention like the more famous environmental issues like emissions by greenhouse gases or the pungent smell of the raw sewage outfalls that occurs regularly or even the negative imagery for the eye by air pollution. Polluted runoff does not have any apparent or obvious symptoms which indicate its disastrous impacts to ruin the life quality. However, in reality the symbols are present and unfortunately there a quite a lot of these available signs. Even though there are still a lot of picturesque views available but it’s not even a portion of how beautiful it used to be previously. Ever since the Europeans started settling in this region the land has been utilized in very different manner and there has been a dramatic consequence of it too. From 30% to even 100% of the wetlands have been lost in a few of the urban areas development. The saltwater marshes of Puget Sound have faced a destruction of around 75% of their total area. It would make the maintenance of cars a legal act in the law of the Puget Sound region. Also making the washing of cars at commercial car washes a more favorable option instead of at home. Awareness should also be created to take care of animal wastage and make it necessary that every house a rain barrel. The use of natural options for the lawn should be endorsed as a volunteer step initially but later made a part of the law as well. These are big steps which need to be taken one little step a time (Sightline Institute, 2014). The stoppage of the use of fertilizers would be a policy accepted by all environmentalists whether endorsing greenhouse gas emissions or raw sewage outfalls as it has disastrous effects on the environment. The maintenance of cars should also be incorporated in the traffic laws and civil law as it would result in reduction of not just polluted runoff due to lack of oil, grease etc available to mix with the rainwater but also a reduction in air and noise pollution thus can gather the support of other major environmentalists as well. However the necessity of a rain barrel is a step which needs to be taken by the environmentalists tackling polluted runoffs only as it would majorly take off a burden by the already overly burdened sewage
