According to Child Care Aware of America, Nearly 11 million children under the age of 5 in America are in some kind of child care every week. Long amounts time in daycare has shown that it causes aggressive behavior and poor social skills in children. Parents no longer have the option of family members babysitting their children while they go to work. The child care assistance program was made for this particular situation and to help those who babysit children to compensate for the person’s time. For instance, parents who works from 9am to 5pm will pay an estimate of four hundred dollars a week, but with the child care assistance program they will save money. Therefore, parents will have to make alternative arrangements in order to keep their jobs, but if they do not have someone to help them, they are forced to quit their jobs and collect unemployment if they are eligible.
Head Start is a federal funded program for children between ages three to five who are underprivileged and come from low income families. A child’s mind when they first go to school is rapidly developing and at school teachers are responsible for guiding their students and helping them develop throughout the school year. If a child gets a bad teacher they can’t develop like they are suppose to. For many low income families public schools are their only option and before Head Start public schools didn’t really have a good preschool option. If a child attended preschool it regularly costed money and poor, low income families couldn’t afford to send their children to a private preschool.

Child care providers help make the transition into childhood education much smoother by teaching the children letters, numbers, and shapes, while giving them proper diet and exercise.
For my Learning Strategies Reflections assignment I choose the cooperative learning that took place in a high school history class. Throughout the years the cooperative learning approach has been very effective to get children to engage with their peers while learning academic curriculum. In the history class video recording, the cooperative learning was the main approach for the teacher’s lesson plan. Cooperative learning is “An instructional approach in which students work together in groups to achieve learning goals” (Ryan, Cooper, & Bolick, 2016). When utilizing the cooperative learning technique the teacher puts students into small groups/peer to peer groups.
Issue #2 Children typically get into trouble when they are bored or have an idle mind. Statistics show this in numbers of different studies that have been conducted over years. States that have more after school programs for children and teens usually have less crime rate as minors and lower dropout rates, but Mississippi is not one of these lucky states to have the necessary available after school programs for students. This lack of programs may be one the causes for Mississippi to be one of the higher dropout rates in country.
As the expectations for children entering kindergarten rise, so should a child’s preparation for the concepts that they will be expected to know. More and more parents are making the decision to enroll their children into some type of preschool to help prepare them for kindergarten, and more and more of these students are succeeding in their early school years and even their later life. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to share information on the development of the child and have a clear and constant flow of dialogue with the family. This will enable both parties to deal with any issues that may arise within the family, school or community. It also my belief that parents should have an active part in their child’s learning and be able to lend a hand whenever necessary, and having open communication with them will allow this transparency and connection between home and school. The community is vital in ensuring that the facilities around the community and school is appropriate for the different children and families to live in and grow. A very good example of this successful collaboration is the Reggio Emilia approach in Italy.
