Jeff Cooper) Gun policies have always been a big debate, however in recent times gun control has become a more focused political debate. There are valid arguments on both sides regardless if you are for stricter gun laws or if you are against stricter gun laws. In the current era that we live in, and the government trying to enforce stricter gun laws, we have to ask ourselves are stricter gun laws in our best interest or does it harm us? I will go over several points as to why being against stricter gun laws are more beneficial for American citizens.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states that, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Some dispute the meaning of the 2nd Amendment. Some say that it means that “the people” is defined as individual citizens. Every year, guns are used over eighty times more to protect a life than to take a life. Women use guns to defend themselves against sexual abuse around 200,000 times a year. Three out of five felons that were polled stated they wouldn’t mess with an armed victim. I’m surprised that two out of the five would mess with armed victims. The FBI crime statistics found that states that adopted concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%, rape by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robberies by 3%.
