Many people may define the American dream unattainable to certain people because of their circumstances like being unmotivated, if one had grown up in poverty their are likely to stay that way, and geographical location. The American dream has probably changed since the past because nowadays it the American dollar is worth more and not as easy to find a job that pays good and provides good hours.
My definition of the American Dream is someone who starts from nothing and makes their way through life in a happy and healthy way. Not everyone is capable of reaching the American dream. In Of Mice and Men the American dream was not reached by Lennie and George. In A Raisin in the Sun, they too did not reach the American dream. It is unsuitable for them to live, so they migrate to the United States to seek for improved economy and wellbeing.
