the atomic bombs dropped on Japan in World War II were a good thing. World War II may have gone on for even longer if we would not have dropped the atomic bombs. Yes there were downsides to dropping them but there was more good. The atomic bombs dropped on Japan were a good thing.
One downside of the bombs being dropped that people still complain about today is the radiation. The land in Japan where the bombs were dropped are just now becoming arable. I could see a problem with this if it was a farming area, but Hiroshima is a city, they do not need vegetation in a city. They just build buildings on it, they don’t need arable soil. Radiation is a main reason for the amount of deaths in the bombings. Half of the deaths were from the initial impact but the other half were in the next few months from radiation poisoning. The radiation actually led scientist to find out that it fights off Leukemia cells. On the other hand, it does cause cancer to become three times more likely to those who share blood with someone infected by the radiation. …show more content…

There were 250,000 confirmed kills in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Only 30,000 of those deaths were Japanese soldiers. That means that only 8% of the deaths were Japanese soldiers. Even though 92% of the deaths had nothing to do with the war, it really made Japan realize that they were going to lose many more of their innocent civilians if they did not surrender. People say that innocent people did not need to be killed, but think about if they weren't, Japan would think that everything was okay and they weren't harming any of there own people.
