When the United States first entered World War II it was not only because they wanted to help Europe from being controlled by an evil dictator. It was also about how the United States was attacked on its own soil. This devastating act happened on Pearl Harbor, December 7 1941. Japan decided that they would attack the United States with blunt force and make sure that they knew Japan was an enemy that the United States would never forget. Japan did not take into consideration that the United States was a country that would avenge its devastation. On August 6 1945 at the end of World War II the United States B-29 bomber released its first atomic bomb. This bomb was called “Little Boy”, and was dropped on the city of Hiroshima, which happened to kill approximately around 80,000 people. The second bomb was released just three days later on August 9,1945. This atomic bomb was given the name “Fat Man” was released on Nagasaki, which consisted of plutonium 239, and approximately 73,000 where killed that day. There are many people that wanted other alternatives because they viewed the releasing of atomic bombs as morally wrong and were inhuman. Some people even came up with other alternatives such as invading Japan’s mainland, but in reality most Americans wanted to avoid this at all cost, only because they thought that more Americans would loose their lives if we invaded Japan. There were also arguments that a demonstration of the effects of the atomic bomb could have been held for Japanese officials on some uninhabited islands. If this idea would have worked then we could have spared Hiroshima and Nagasaki from large amounts of devastation as well as show the power of the atomic bomb on a full scale. This is only assuming that the Japanese would have agreed to the demonstration in the first
