Due to the United States winning against the Empire of Japan, we now have a chance to invade the mainland. However, because of the large number of allied deaths, we must think about the decision to invade the mainland. What would be the consequences? For starters, it would add a lot of casualties to the count. We could even lose the advantage against the Empire of Japan.
The US decision to drop atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 has generated much controversy over the years. Some argue that the bombing was necessary to end World War II, while others believed that more than 200,000 civilians died in vain. The use of this disastrous weapon caused a split in society which came down to the usage being necessary for the victory of the Allied Powers as well as stopping more Japanese crimes or a merciless crime that greatly injured an already kneeling, surrendering nation and caused mass innocent deaths. Due to previous Japanese actions, the dropping of the atomic bomb was justified and needed to be done to protect Americans and other countries oppressed by the Japanese.
Only two out of the 110 pounds of fissile material in the nuclear bomb actually blew up on Hiroshima. In the article, “The Hiroshima Bombing: What you need to know about the nuclear attack,” by The Los Angeles Times, it proceeds to state facts about the Hiroshima bombing and about President Obama’s trip to Japan. Obama is the first president to visit Hiroshima since the bombing and has clearly stated that it is not an apology trip. About 140,000 people were killed in the bombing from the initial blast or by radiation poisoning. Not only Japanese were killed, a dozen Americans and 20,000 Koreans were also killed.
On August 6, 1945 a uranium gun-type atomic bomb (Little Boy) was dropped on Hiroshima Japan by the Enola Gay: an American B-29 super-fortress bomber. President Harry S. Truman made the decision to drop this atom bomb on that fateful day, proceeding to be one of the most controversial decitions in history. Having killed a little under 66,000 people as a result of the bomb dropping, there is no possibility that this decision would not have been controversial. Despite all of the atrocity that has come out of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima Japan, I believe that it was a necessary evil to drop the bomb. Japan’s leaders and especially its military leaders clung fiercely to the notions of Ketsu-Go (decisive battle) and without the bombs there was no starting point to begin to break down those powerful beliefs.
Truman did not utilize his power well while faced with the decision to drop the bomb. This is because there were other ways to solve the problem, and it was savage and brutal. The relationship between Japan and America will never be the same. It was so inhumane to drop the bomb.
It was a calm August morning in the year 1945, and citizens were out living their lives as normal, getting groceries, playing at the park, and walking to work, little did everyone in what was the beautiful town of Hiroshima know, there was an atomic bomb right above their heads. Boom. Simultaneously 70,000 innocent lives were lost. 30,000 more lives were taken later on due to the atomic bomb. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the two Japanese cities that the United dropped the Atomic Bomb on in 1945 to try & bring an end to World War 2.
On August 6th, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Two days later, the Soviet Union invaded Japan, sweeping through their Northernmost main island. The next day, we dropped another bomb on Nagasaki. With each bomb, tens thousands of people were killed instantly, and many more from the aftereffects of the bombling. We all know about this, but what most people don’t know about is the why we dropped it instead of invading Japan or just doing normal bombing and increasing the naval blockade.
My strongest argument AGAINST using the atomic bomb is that it will kill thousands of innocent people. The bomb that was dropped over Hiroshima instantly killed about 80,000 civilians. Those who survived were seriously injured with burns, and more people would also die from the radiation. This was talked about on page 188, “...instantly killed almost 80,000 civilians. The nuclear blast left many more people maimed or hideously burned, while others fell victim to a new, more gradual killer – radiation poisoning.”
On August 6 1945 at the end of World War II the United States B-29 bomber released its first atomic bomb. This bomb was called “Little Boy”, and was dropped on the city of Hiroshima, which happened to kill approximately around 80,000 people. The second bomb was released just three days later on August 9,1945. This atomic bomb was given the name “Fat Man” was released on Nagasaki, which consisted of plutonium 239, and approximately 73,000 where killed that day.
The end was in sight. The war in Europe has been won, and the Japanese stood as the last of the axis powers. At the Potsdam conference, the allies drafted and delivered an ultimatum for the unconditional surrender of the Japanese. However, the enemy in the pacific refused to give up despite their circumstances. The Allies, specifically the US military, began exploring options of how to force the Japanese into surrender.
On the morning of April 6th, 1945, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, America dropped a bomb developed to destroy homes on Hiroshima, Japan. Instantly, 18,000 people were killed, and around 400,000 more died from radiation effects afterward. Nine days later, on April 15th, Japan surrendered and the war between Japan and America ended. With many American people questioning if the bomb was needed to end the war, America released an article stating that the bomb was a necessary evil. But, many still wonder whether or not America should have dropped the atomic bomb.
There were 250,000 confirmed kills in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Only 30,000 of those deaths were Japanese soldiers. That means that only 8% of the deaths were Japanese soldiers. Even though 92% of the deaths had nothing to do with the war, it really made Japan realize that they were going to lose many more of their innocent civilians if they did not surrender. People say that innocent people did not need to be killed, but think about if they weren't, Japan would think that everything was okay

Today, only a simple majority thinks it was “ok” to drop the atom bombs so many years ago, while back in 1945 more than ⅔ of Americans were all for it. The dropping of multiple nukes on Japan was completely necessary because it saved many american lives, quickly ended the war, and it showed the world what a dangerous weapon they are.
