When fighting in a war there is typically two sides fighting. With the two opposing forces causes many lives taken and cities and towns ruined. Now picture three sides fighting or four. Think how many lives are ruined and homes were destroyed. Sounds unimaginable, right? Wrong. in Syria, located in the Middle East, there is a civil war wrecking lives of almost every Syrian citizen. In explanation, there are three sides fighting in the civil war. There is the dictator of Syria Bashar al-Assad, a rebel group, and ISIS. All fighting against each other for power over Syria. A fact by World Vision’s second annual survey on Americans’ willingness to help refugees, particularly those affected by the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, states Americans are now less willing to respond to the needs of refugees affected by the conflict than they were a year ago. This quote shows how Americans are less willing to take in refugees. This is disappointing because America is a country made up of immigrants and refugees. In addition one statistic shows that In 2013, a year in which the United States granted asylum to 70,000 refugees worldwide, just 36 were Syrian. Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011, the United States has taken in only 1,500 Syrians. The statistic shows how pathetic the US’s contribution to helping the refugees especially when compared to the 1 million syrian refugees taken in by Germany. Lastly an expert opinion of Richard Stearns says, “It’s disappointing to see America’s heart closing to refugees.
