Human rights were initiated for the protection of the basic civil and political liberties in the general public. In the United Kingdom the Human Rights Act of 1998 came into force in October 2000. The aim of the HRA in the UK was to provide further legal effect to the basic rights and freedoms contained in the European Convention of Human Rights. The rights contained in the HRA not only affect essential matters of life and death, but also issues that occur in people 's daily life. Considering the broad range of basic rights covered, it is not astonishing that the HRA is viewed as one of the most significant segments of legislation ever passed in the UK.
Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter states that, "all member states shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, nor in any manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations” . It is therefore a unilateral agreement signed by member states against the use of force when dealing each other. World events however since the signing and ratification of the UN Charter have indicated that states who are signatories to the charter continue to use force against each other for various reasons. Some 25 years after the writing and ratification of the charter one cannot doubt that states have used force and sought to justify it through individual or collective self-defence claims, as well as humanitarian claims in furtherance of national agendas and to increase territory. In the wake and devastation of the Second World War, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which became the basis for the European Convention on Human Rights. Although the UK agreed to be bound by the Convention in 1953, it was only in 1966 that it accepted the right of its individuals to bring complaints to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). A problem to this approach was the fact that the ‘victims’ needed to apply to the ECtHR, and none of the rights were available in domestic law – although they could use them as persuasive arguments to make a claim for their right. What are the main points and purpose of the UDHR (United Declaration of Human Rights) and the speech that Malala Yousafzi’s made to the UN? Both bring up interesting points about human rights, but in different mediums and different aspects about certain rights. By not saying directly the same things, they are implied that they are almost the same ideas. The UDHR and Malala’s speech come to the same meaning by how they talk about different rights but mean the same thing, why they were created, and what elements are the same between the two documents.
Sadly, this right is violated when performing abortion. People who support abortion say that the fetus in the womb is not considered a human being yet, so it does not kill or harm anyone. “In fact, unborn babies probably feel pain more intensely than adults. This is a uniquely vulnerable time since the pain system is fully established, yet the higher level pain-modifying system has barely begun to develop.” (Ranalli) The babies inside the womb feel pain, they are no different than an already born baby or an adult.
