There are several reasons why people will try to get information from you. There are also several ways to do so, including the use of torture. Ultimately, it is up to the military and government on how we should perceive it and how far torturing should go. Because terrorism has changed the world of war, everyone should have an understanding of how torturing terrorists help the military discover future threats and how it keeps the United States as safe as possible.
Terrorism has changed the world of war so much. You cannot just go to another country and fight their military anymore. There is much more to it, due to terrorism. Terrorists’ goals are to ruin a society by killing civilians and threaten a country’s security. As of right now, the United Nations against Torture (UNCAT) internationally made torture illegal. Torturing would definitely be considered cruel and unusual punishment. However, A common argument in favor of torture is that the Eight Amendment does not apply to the military; nor to foreigners; nor to wartime situations; nor to foreign soil. This position takes makes a number of generous assumptions and shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how the constitution works(“Is”). Even though torture is unconstitutional, it does not apply to the military.
In conclusion, torture can be effective if used used correctly. It can be used to gain very valuable information to save lives as long as the tactics are not fatal. Lots of people have varying opinions on the matter but whatever is effective or counter-effective is based solely on it’s purpose and the way it is
