There is no doubt that the United States government made mistakes during the military’s occupation of Iraq. Outside of the fact that they should not have been there, the actions taken there were irresponsible and proved to be fatal. Once the nation was offended by US military presence, the society went into chaos. About 4,000 Americans died in Iraq alone. The United States proved to act on impulse during this tragic event. No government is indeed perfect, however, some circumstances can be prevented if certain precautions are taken. The post-invasion plan was inadequate. When the war was called upon in 2003, the US soldiers lacked preparation. They did not know what to expect in Iraq. This proved the lack of training in social interaction with the people of Iraq. A great part of the United States' unpreparedness was the lack of Arabic translators. Without proper fluency in the language, there is no effective communication. This leaves an opportunity for miscommunication and misunderstanding. Mistakes such as this are not affordable; they confuse Americans and Iraqis. Even after the occupation, the US military should have enabled more soldiers with the resources to learn and adapt to the foreign language. While learning a new language with a different alphabet is difficult, it certainly is possible with proper training. A major mission of the US government was to disband the Iraqi army.
