Uber Impact Uber has been an up-and-coming business located in cities all across America for six years. The ride-sharing service came to South Carolina in July, 2014 in cities such as Columbia, Charleston, Greenville and Myrtle Beach. Americans should be pro-Uber because it gives people more reliability with transportation and distributes more wealth among the businesses and people in our society. Is this necessarily a bad thing? In my opinion, Uber drivers are mostly made up of part-time freelance workers who need the extra money for bills and even entertainment. These Uber drivers also have other full-time jobs they can obtain insurance and retirement benefits from. Theatlantic.com6 boasts that almost 80% of Uber drivers had a full-time job before they started driving and only 8% of drivers were unemployed before driving. The website also suggests that the numbers translate to not enough work for the percentage of full-time workers who are willing to work a few extra hours to earn some extra cash.
