In Anne-Marie Slaughter article “Why Women Still Can’t Have It All” she gives her reasons for her opinions by telling us, the readers her life story of balancing a family and a career. Slaughter is a working mother with a career. She has a husband and children at home and a career in another state which makes it hard her to see them. Being away from her children it makes it hard for Slaughter to parent her boys because she always at work.
Life comes with the difficulty of trying to manage family and career at the same time. In the article, “Why Women Still Can’t Have It All,” the author Anne-Marie Slaughter is explaining how tough it is to balance family and career together. You have to take out time for your kids or else they will drift away from you, but you also have your job to handle or else you will lose that. Women have not yet received the fairness with men in workforce. I believe that it is tough for a women to handle her family and career together, and men get recognized more than women in the workforce.
Throughout history there has been a huge conflict concerning the role of men and women; especially in the 19th century. In the 19th century majority of the population was ran by men because they were seen as the dominant gender in many different aspects such as knowledge, strength, being independent, and working; women on the hand was seen as the more weaker and more fragile gender such as needing a man to depend on, being very emotional/ hormonal, and supposedly couldn’t handle workloads like the men could. These stereotypes and mindset were so common most men and even women thought this was true; which lead very few women to stand out from the rest to show that women could handle Just as much as a man. In the novel “Serena”, there is a different side in how gender is looked upon; the novel shows how women could be just as dominant as the men, and how they are Just as knowledgeable, resourceful, and demanding.

It is very interesting how Reb Smolinsky, the father, viewed women and their roles in not only in the society but in the family.
Women in today’s society hold jobs even of higher power, and have further aspirations beyond motherhood and wifely duties in the household. Commonly most houses in the twenty first century are dual income, both the male and female branch out into the workforce. For example Meyera Oberndorf states in The Changing Role of Women in the 21st Century, “Women are experiencing greater economic gains, greater independence and the enhanced sense of self-worth which comes from making valuable contributions in the workforce.” However, as much as the times have changed and the progress we have made, issues from the fifties such as sexism have still stuck around. The Role of Women The Good Earth throws much light into the treatment and condition of Chinese women in and around those days when the story takes place. It is important in the context of the ecocritical treatment of this novel as woman characters not only help the author develop the plot, but also act as strong chain in fixing the nature-human bond. Foot binding was a practice mentioned numerous times throughout the novel. Small, bound feet were considered beautiful and desirable female characteristics.
She speaks of all the contribution most of the women make and that men never appreciate, things that men think are the obligation of the wife. For instance, the writer says, “I want a wife who will keep my clothes clean, ironed, mended, replaced when need be, and who will see to it that my personal things are kept in their proper place so that I can find what I need the minute I need it” (Brady 503). This explains that, men want everything to be done by their wife, so they can only have whatever they need without doing some effort. Another example the author gives is that men want everything from women to be done, even that women have the same rights and obligations as men.
Impacts of Globalization: Disney Yip and Hult (2012) define globalization as a business operating in all four hemispheres. There is no question that Steam Boat Willie, the original 1928 Mickey Mouse and the original Disney character, has expanded the Disney Company into a global business. As Disney pursued global expansion, there were a lot of variables to contend with. In order to operate in any foreign environment, competition must be frequently analyzed. Additionally, adaptions often need to be made in order to compete and to meet the needs and wants of consumers in the local culture.
Gender Identity has been vastly debated for years; it is debated often because people are constantly questioning their sexuality. When questioning, people may create labels for people to help them understand their own identity. If someone is born with female body parts and calls themselves a male, someone might label them as transgender. Or if someone has male body parts and dresses as a man, people may label him as a transvestite. No matter how someone may identify, there will always be a label for that identification.
There were many things in President Benson’s talk that were harsh and hard to hear, I don’t want to be prideful to those I love or anyone. There were so many quotes in this talk that gave me much reflection, one of them was “If we love God, do His will, and fear His judgment more than men’s, we will have self-esteem as Christ wants to lift us to where He is, Do we desire to do the same for others?” In our other readings from Goddard’s book “Drawing Heaven into Marriage”, repentance is what keeps us humble and President Benson points out that humility and meekness are antidotes to pride. If my marriage was free of pride or the many faces of pride, I would truly have a Heavenly Marriage.

No subject conjures up such a wide variety of thoughts and emotions for men as the female species. Women shower us with affection, bear our children, provide companionship and stability, help build our homes, and love us for reasons difficult to comprehend.
As a result, the secret to “success and fulfillment may very well lie in the ability to express humility”
In our advanced 21st century, it is hard to imagine our society as anything short of perfect. After all, we have come a long way from our seafaring ancestors. However, the reality is that despite how we may sometimes avoid seeing it, our society is anything but perfect. A very prevalent issue today is that despite laws being set in place to enforce the equal treatment of men and women, women all over the world today still face poor treatment and discrimination. Because of how deep and long this problem has run, revising discriminatory laws may not abolish discrimination and legislating laws that endorse gender equality may not necessarily create equality.
Gender Equality is the only way forward. What is gender equality? Gender equality is achieved when all genders enjoy the same rights and opportunities across all sectors of society, including economic participation and decision-making, and when the different behaviors, aspirations and needs of women and men are equally valued and favored.
