The Teenage years, or adolescence is a significant time of development in cognitive skills which entails intelligence, language, social skills and moral development. Adolescence is the period in development following the onset of puberty and it extends all the way until the transition into adulthood. It is a crucial time in an individual 's life and how they develop within this period will impact them for the rest of their life. The development that occurs during this time period is perhaps the most important. Self efficacy plays an important role in the development of this. If an individual is approaching a situation believing that they posses the correct emotional skills to succeed in that situation then they have a greater chance of succeeding, or if they fail then they will learn from the situation. Additionally, social and emotional intelligence are crucial for interactions with peers. Peer to peer interactions are very beneficial in cognitive development. They help you learn emotional intelligence, conversational skills that enhance language, friendship and sometimes even how to acquire knowledge. One time I was in Social Studies 10, a friend of mine could not comprehend the subject matter that was being taught. No matter how many times the teacher explained it he could not grasp it. Finally, a friend of his explained in a manor and context in which he could understand greater, suddenly he got it and was able to contribute to the class discussion. Peer interaction enhanced his learning and understanding, that is why social development is so important. Once again use the example of Math 10 from earlier, if the student were to take the less moral easy road of just checking the answers in the back of the book then they may still achieve the academic goals they set.
