Technology is a significant part of daily life. Everyone makes use of some form of technology every day. As technology evolves and its quality is made better, it is taking us closer to the world of Big Brother. In his book, 1984, George Orwell describes a world in which society is constantly being watched by “Big Brother,” or their leaders. With current technologies such as GPS and smartphones, our world is not far from the heavy surveillance experienced by people in 1984.
In Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, they semi live a different life than we do. Their technology is ten times more advanced. In the book, people are blocked out from reading books. This doesn’t help them, it may help their government, however it doesn’t help them improve. In the book, they’re not allowed to have books.

I believe his examples were realistic in the way that certain advancements in technology would be detrimental to other aspects of our lives. Many connections can be made between these three stories, none as driven or focused on the opinion that technology will deprive us of certain freedoms. Knowledge is information and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. Books and schools are a way to receive knowledge everyday. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, he create a society that lives without books or some sort of education to show the effects that technology can have on our lives. Technology can be a wonderful thing and can lead solutions for life threatening moments, but it can serve as a distraction from real world problems. In this society, technology distracts the citizens with false realities and knowledge is destroyed along with the books.

The 21st Century resembles the world shown in 1984 by George Orwell in many ways, some of which being how the technology we have watches and tracks us, the information we have access to is manipulated, and people who speak up about what is happening or has happened are punished for it. First, the 21st Century resembles 1984 because our phones have the ability to track our every move and always watch us in the same way the Party’s telescreens did. For example, “Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it.he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment” (Orwell 5). This demonstrates how they are constantly tracked by the telescreens and are not able to live their lives the way they want to because the Party is always aware of their actions and can use it against them at a later time if they choose.
Technology is an everyday use in our lives by now and especially focused on our convenience. The classic literature novel 1984 by George Orwell shows, how a man born in 1903 – died in 1950 – expected our world to look like in the future and how technology would be used. Unfortunately for the protagonist Wilson, technology isn’t used for the convenience of everyday life and most citizens. So-called telescreens always pick up sounds and if one is in its field of view‘ it will record your movements and send everything to the government for closer inspection.

There are telescreens that can see almost all parts of your house as well as wherever you went. The lack of privacy and the constant surveillance brought fear upon the people. The main character, Winston, has neighbors with kids that would terrorize their parents.
Our privacy was predicted to be taken away unknowingly by technology. In the novel 1984 it gives examples of technology we have today that relate back to our technology today.
