Solar Calendar A solar calendar is based on the time it takes the sun to travel around the earth, approximately 365 and ¼ days. This calendar was first used by the Egyptians who made a system of 12 months with 30 days each and added 5 days to the end of the year. This system allowed for error due to the extra 0.25 day and was adjusted by Ptomely III who added an extra day every 4 years. In Rome the original lunar calendar, the Roman Republican calendar, was replaced with the Julian calendar by Julius Ceasar. This calendar assigned 30 or 31 days to every month except February which had less. This calendar also allowed for a leap year every 4 years, this made the year slightly too long and created another error. This system was corrected by the
