In my art The Rose That Grew From Concrete, the medium is dry media. Dry Media, includes metalpoint, chalk, charcoal, graphite, and pastel, consist of coloring agents, or pigments, that are sometimes ground or mixed with substances that hold the pigment together , called binders (Sayre,180 ). In addition, the materials I used for my art work is pencil and markers. The Rose That Grew From Concrete is 2 dimensional and the dimension of my art work is 11x 14in/ 27.9 x 35.6 cm. My artwork consists of several elements of designs such as line, shape, color, value and texture. One example of texture is the concrete… it has the appearance a rough cracked surface. The rose is an organic shape, which is associated with things from the natural world. There is emphasis or focal point in my artwork, for example, the large bright red rose stands out the dark blue background. It’s the dominant focal point, or the dominant element in this image. Another principle of design The Rose That Grew From Concrete have is movement. In addition, the cracks in the concrete move upward and direct the viewer eyes to a focal area. My artwork was inspired of the late rapper, poet, activist, and actor, Tupac Shakur’s poem, The Rose The Grew From Concrete: Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
