In the article, “The Stripes will Survive” Jacqueline Adams explains that the world may run out of tigers! Three subspecies are now extinct, and now only fewer than 5,000 tigers roam the wild. Roughly, only about 400 out of the 5,000 tigers are Siberian tigers. Only 500 Siberian tigers live in zoos. The important role of zoos is to protect our beloved animals. Without zoos, animals would be out roaming the wild where they could possibly be killed and captured. This can lead to animals being threatened and endangerment rates to become high. According to the text, “In 1981, the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) started the Species Survival Plan (SSP) to make sure that the threatened and endangered animal species don't disappear.” The evidence supports the premise by showing that precautions have been made so animals are not threatened, nor endangered.
