Do you know what the cause and effect of suspense is? The cause of suspense is to make the story scary. The effect of making the story scary is it turned into a horror story. Now let's get more in detail with the cause and effect of suspense in books.
The cause-and-effect relationships in “The Tell-Tale Heart.” The cause and effect relationship in “The Tell-Tale Heart” is simple. The main character kills the old man with the eye like a vulture. He hears the old man's heart beating which creates a lot of fear, that makes him confess to the police in the end. The cause for suspense in “The Tell-Tale Heart” is the main character killing the old man. “I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture—a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold...” (Pg. 89, Line 12-17, Poe) The old man had a scary eye, so he planned to kill him to get rid of the eye. The Monkey’s Paw had a spell put on it to grant three different men three wishes and the wishes happen so naturally that they can be taken as a coincidence. The wishes that the Whites made after being warned made them regret everything. The monkey's paw is the source of the suspense, but the cause is what and how the monkey’s paw dose things. ““The first man had his three wishes. Yes,” was the reply; “I don’t know what the first two were, but the third was for death. That’s how I got the paw.”” (Pg. 108, Lines 90-93, Jacobs) The effect was a warning of the bad things that can happen if you are not wise with your wishes. What would happen if the cause did not exist there would have been no warning of the thing the paw dose.
