When you own a dog, it has complete loyalty to you as it’s master. This shows how loyal followers can be to their leaders. Example, only 7 percent of Germany’s population was Nazi and followed Hitler and his ideas. However, that 7 percent was so loyal that, as a whole, they created a great amount of power for Hitler. This is what gave him the ability to take complete control. If you haven’t realized it yet, loyalty is everywhere. Soldier to sergeant, customer to store, dog to human, student to teacher, do you see a pattern? “The Wave” by Todd Strasser is a great example of what loyalty is and it’s effects and powers. It is a necessary part of life and a good trait that can build up a relationship. Loyalty is a two way street. If given, it is generally reciprocated. It’s an important part in building it. The one down fall in trust that make people veer from it is that it takes a while to gain. But it can also be lost very easily. In the wave, David and Laurie had a strong bond that of trust. Laurie lost some of that trust in David when he didn’t listen to her side of the wave. If you are afraid and paranoid about losing your trust with someone, just reason with them and talk it out. In the wave Mr. Ross spent most of his “experiment” building trust with his students and hoping they were starting to build trust with each other. A famous quote about trust is “Trust with your heart not your head.” In “The Wave” Ben Ross trusted the wave and it’s goals with his head and not his heart.
