In Rwanda, three groups all contributed to the Genocide. These include the Belgian Colonizers, Hutu extremists and the UN, but not all hold full responsibility. These three play parts of the genocide. This all started because of the mistakes the Belgian colonizers made and their obsessions with strength and power. The main idea is to give information about why they are all responsible for the 100 day span genocide. The Belgian colonizers are responsible for the Genocide that occurred on April 7, 1994 and ended on July 15, 1994 because they were overly obsessed with classification and differentiation of ‘races’. Hutu extremist soldiers were responsible for shooting down the plane carrying the president, Habyarimana (Iaroslavtsev). Hutus soon ruled Rwanda, which started the genocide and took their revenge for being treated the way they were and for the Belgian colonizers picking their favorites, Tutsis. Hutu extremists were adamantly opposed to the policy and also set up roadblocks to trap and slaughter Tutsis (https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/04/rwanda-shows-how-hateful-speech-leads-violence/587041/). The reason why Hutu extremists set up roadblocks for Tutsis so they couldn’t evacuate to save themselves was because they wanted revenge for the Tutsis having more autonomy and power than the Hutus, also having the Hutus work more hours and harder while Tutsis supervised. Hutus exterminated Tutsis by referring to them as cockroaches and tall trees (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/may/17/bizimungu-jailed-for-rwanda-genocide).
