In my mind one of the biggest events in the 1820's was the invention of the typewriter. It was invented in 1828 by an Italian inventor Pellegrino Turri. Actually the idea of the typewriter goes all of the way back to 1714 when Englishman Henry Mill drew out the original diagrams of the typewriter. Beach was considered the father of the typewriter but Pellegrino Turri still made the original working typewriter that went to the market. Then, Christopher Latham Sholes made the very first sub mobile typewriter. Before this time all typewriters were as big as a small car. Plus, the keys on the typewriter were very hard to push down. The keyboard became very similar to the present day one that you see on computers and other electronic devices. When this typewriter went to the market it sold like crazy. Every business wanted one and even middle class businesses were trying to get one. They thought that it would make their lives much easier. Also, the newspaper businesses were tripping over each other to get one of the new machines. They found out that the typewriter could cut their hours of work in half. It also made creating the newspaper safer. As a result of working with all ink pens there were several writers with the major problems of lead poisoning. Thanks to the writing of newspapers becoming typing there was less ink being used which led to less lead poisoning. This better helped the entire death rate and getting workers became easier. Due to the Industrial Revolution beginning in the early 1820's there was a great demand to spread the news of new inventions or products. This helped the printing companies make a lot of money.
